  • Meet James

James Albis is serving his fourth term as State Representative in the Connecticut General Assembly for the 99th District – his hometown of East Haven. He first claimed the seat in a February 2011 special election. In January 2017, James was appointed Deputy Majority Leader and Chair of the Screening Committee, where he plays a vital role in analyzing policy and coordinating House matters. James also serves on the Finance, Revenue, & Bonding, Insurance and Judiciary Committees.

James has played an active role in advancing policies that promote economic growth and expand the middle class, such as investing in new industries like bioscience and advanced manufacturing, improving educational opportunities for students of all levels, and advancing consumer protection measures that help our senior citizens. James is a strong advocate for East Haven, voting to expand the Family Resource Center at D.C. Moore School, increasing East Haven’s share of state aid to offset property taxes, and protect Medicaid and expand access to quality health care.

In addition to his committee work, James was appointed to chair the Speaker's Task Force on Shoreline Preservation. This task force investigated the issues of sea level rise, coastal flooding, and extreme weather events, with the goal of ensuring the safety of homeowners along the coast and in other vulnerable areas. The task force released a report of recommendations that led to significant improvements in our state’s preparedness for changing weather patterns. The Connecticut League of Conservation Voters has recognized Rep. Albis as a legislative champion from 2012-2018 for his work on coastal resilience and climate adaptation.

Born and raised in East Haven, James was a member of the first graduating class of East Haven Academy in 1998 and a 2002 graduate of East Haven High School. Upon graduating from EHHS, James attended New York University in New York City. In 2005, James spent a semester at NYU’s campus in Florence, Italy, studying international economics. He graduated from NYU in 2006 with a B.A. in Economics and received his Master of Environmental Management from the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies in 2016.

James’s family has long been involved in the East Haven community. His grandfather, Dr. Francis Albis, practiced pediatrics in town for decades, caring for many of East Haven’s families over his long career as well as serving as the medical advisor to the local public-school system. James’s father, the Hon. Michael A. Albis, serves as a Connecticut Superior Court Judge and previously served as East Haven’s Judge of Probate for twelve years. James’s mother, Jacqueline Albis, was an English teacher at EHHS for over twenty years and a former member of the East Haven Board of Education.

James has been married to his wife Kimberly Glassman since June 2015. Kimberly is the Director of the Foundation for Fair Contracting, an organization that helps to protect construction workers from wage theft. They recently bought their first home in East Haven.

His brother Mark is a graduate of Yale University and works as a Web Project Manager at the Yale University School of Medicine. His sister, Katherine, is a fellow graduate of New York University and holds a Master’s Degree in the Humanities from the University of Chicago. She now works in communications for the Council of State Governments Justice Center in Manhattan.

In June 2017, James took on the role of Executive Director at the Connecticut Green Building Council. This non-profit organization works to promote sustainable building practices in the state, most notably through their Annual CTGBC Green Building Awards which recognizes outstanding green building projects in Connecticut.
